The Muskogee Public School District began transporting students to school in September of 1898. However, busing was only available to children living in rural areas up through 1960 from the best of our knowledge. The Transportation Department employees currently consist of thirty-seven (37) bus drivers, (10) bus assistants, and (3) mechanics. We have thirty-five (37) routes. Among these routes are (26) regular routes, (5) Special Ed Routes, and (6) ECC Routes. The Transportation Department provides busing for students from Pre-school and through the 12th grade. Students must be eligible to ride a school bus that equates to the student living 1½ miles from the school site or crossing a hazardous street to get to their school site. Last year Muskogee Public Schools Transportation logged 517,000 route miles and at the end of May 2014 was busing 2111 students on a daily basis.
